About the Willard Library

Library Staff

Beth Berlin-Stephens, Teacher Librarian

Ms. Stephens is new to the Willard Library this year and is excited to be back working for her hometown district - as an alumnus of Longfellow. She has four years of teacher-librarian experience and prior to that was a middle school English teacher. She graduated from Occidental College and got her Master's in Education from Saint Mary's. As well, Ms. Stephens has a Master's of Library Science which she completed at San Jose State University. In her free time she loves to read, go to concerts, and travel.

Hai-Qing Chen, Library Assistant

Ms. Chen is happy to be working with students at Willard after several years as the Berkeley High School textbook clerk. She has been at Willard since the fall of 2017. Her hobbies include reading.

The Library League (Student Library Workers)

Students enrolled in Independent Work Experience form the core of the Willard Library's work staff. These highly-trained and enthusiastic 7th and 8th grade students support their fellow classmates by helping circulate and shelve library materials, assist students with finding books, and help with technology needs throughout the school. It is only with their able assistance that the rest of the library staff is able to focus on teaching and collection development. All students can apply to be part of the Library League when they select electives for their 7th or 8th grade year.
